Since last Summer, I have been on a journey. Both mentally and physically. Symptoms haven’t really changed much but my confidence grew. The balance issue remained but through the right exercise and learning new techniques, I began trusting my body again. Plus, spending more time around people with similar mobility difficulties, encourage me to venture outside and discover.
I have always been looking for new challenges and continuously teaching myself latest tricks. Hence, it was a natural development to go to a physio hospital. There is one 15 minutes from Prague. It is mainly for those after knee and hip surgeries. But I also met someone with motor neurone disease, MS, …
My days consisted of physiotherapy, ergo therapy, gym (both arms and legs exercises) and swimming pool. It was quite intensive and by the end of each day I felt exhausted. I wasn’t expecting any miracles. My condition is not that common and the depth of experience and statistics on improvement are lacking.
I cannot observe changes like patients after a knee surgery for instance. Furthermore, symptoms I suffer from resemble Parkinson’s, onset ALS and stroke. Therefore, those treating me often experiment. I don’t mind being “a guinea pig” though. I grasped a few new techniques, for instance how to massage/exercise/stimulate my facial nerves, how to walk short distance with a crutch. I loved the facilities and the options they provided. I might stay again in Autumn.
Recovering hasn’t been easy. With many ups and downs. I had a fall just yesterday. It reminded me how much I improved but it’s not back to normal. It might never be. And that’s OK.
So overall, great adventure. I will report any further changes.
By the way, I lost two kilos despite eating like a piggie. Interesting, indeed.
