My most trusted, loyal friend. It did try to kill me a few times. But to its defence, I didn’t know it well enough back then.
Jokes aside, it’s going to be two years since I started using wheelchair to move outside independently. I would not be able to walk longer distance due to fatigue and balance problem. The wheelchair helps with that. Thanks to it, I started seeing new things and look at various issues in an unusual light. For instance, people talk to me differently Some do not know how to behave towards me, others (usually the younger generation) are a bit more relaxed.
One of my biggest difficulties are badly built pavements, road crossings and unnecessary stairs. Prague is not ideal in this sense, something I’m trying to actively change by building awareness and campaigning with others effected.
But I’m not going to rant about that in this post. This piece is dedicated to my love. If someone told me years ago, that I would be expressing my affection towards a wheelchair, I would think they were mad. But it’s true. I’m overwhelmingly grateful for having it. Particularly for the freedom it provides and possibilities it offers. Furthermore, it introduced and keeps introducing me to another communities and forms new friendships. That’s very exciting.
Anyways, here is the love letter:
You came to my life in challenging times. You provide comfort, confidence and opportunities. I receive many compliments in your company. Dogs fear you, cats adore your soft cushion. You created a whole another dimension to my life for which I am forever grateful. I like that you keep me on my toes, motivate me to stay in a good physical shape and divert attention to issues I might not have otherwise noticed. You deepen bonds that I already have and help to form new friendships. Thank you. Love, eternally. Anna
