The good and the bad about Botox

In 2017, I wrote about how regular botox injections improved some of my symptoms. Diminished the movement on my chin and opened up my right eye.

Altogether, I had botox for four years every three months, so at least 14 applications. Last injection was the end of June, 2020.

Following the VP shunt operation, my right cheek released itself and went down after eight years of non-stop facial spasm. But because it’s been injected with Botox for a long time, I lost the ability to open my mouth fully or smile. The nerves controlling the movement are “dead”.

I do wonder from what number of injections this side effect is irreversible. No-one, so far, has been able to answer my question.

So yeah, the good and the bad about having botox injections to help with facial spasm. What is your experience and can anyone answer my queries?

Zmenšily záškuby brady a otevřely mé pravé oko.

  1. hi Anna, I do not believe that it is the Botox to blame for the face drooping. Unfortunately one of the symptoms of the brainstem glioma is the facial drooping. I have researched a lot becuase I am dealing with a similar situation that you went through back in 2012-2013. I noticed small asymetry in my face (actually looking back at my pictures it has started probably 10 years ago) and while I had other aymptoms i was sent to do an MRI scan.
I am following your blog to help myself cope with this. I’ve heard that “this is so rare” a million times and the doctors haven’t seen cases like this (in the US there were about 200 cases from 2007-2017 reported) so they are pretty much useless in giving the answers what to expect next. So I have been researching through Reddit or other blogs like yours for information.

god bless you and your Family
