Throughout these years, living with my brain tumour, I have seen and heard truly bizarre stuff. I have compiled a list of things you shouldn’t say to a brain tumour patient. But it seems like this topic is bottomless. And as does kindness, sheer human stupidity doesn’t know its limits.
Trying to remain positive, I hope it’s just peoples ignorance and others generally mean no harm. Some of the words they utter are a true gold, treasure indeed. I asked fellow BT peeps, and it seems this issue is universal. So picked the “best” ones and put them all together to (hopefully) make you laugh.
Pablo: “You don’t look unwell…”
Katie: “Oh my gosh, your tumour looks like a little brain within your brain!”
Helen: “I’ve had an ingrowing toenail so I know what you’re going through!”
Paula: “you are NOT disabled, you are too young”
Samatha: “Never mind, only the good die young.”
Hazel: “You don’t look like you have a brain tumour.”
Jeannie: “Look on the bright side.”
Curtis: “So you are fine now it’s out.”
Antoinette: “It was God’s plan and you should have died!”
Chris: “You don’t look ill!”
Andrew: “You are too good-looking to have a brain tumour.”
Jenny: “At least it’s not MS.”
Will: “Ah well it sounds like they caught it early.”
Tina: “Well its not cancer, so don’t see what the problem is.”
If you’ve experienced any other remarks worth sharing, please spread the joy!

Yes, I’ve heard some of those on the list too.
